In the last two weeks we have been "Finding God on Broadway" through song and story within the themes of hope in a hopeless world and our choice of life when we follow Christ. This week we look at what God does when we choose the "road less travelled."
When we choose that road we don't walk it alone. A life in Christ is a relationship. A relationship between a triune God who sees us as individuals - and although is thoroughly knowledgeable about our flaws - sees beyond them to our possibilities.
Any relationship must include two-way communication. We pray, praise, exclaim, whisper, cry out - we speak to God in a variety of ways. And God speaks to us - through the Holy Spirit - scripture, worship, the words of hymns and praise songs, through circumstances, and through the church. If you haven't read Henry Blackaby's classic; "Experiencing God" I highly recommended it. He has several chapters devoted to how God speaks to us.
When we respond to God, our loving Father, Christ and Holy Spirit responds to us in such a way that we know a new joy and a new song is in our hearts.
The Holy Spirit is a gift - sent to us as a guide and an advocate. We look at the world through Pentecost eyes - eyes which take in the resurrection and promise of eternal life with our Creator.
And finally, even though God may inspire us to a mission greater than ourselves, we know that with God nothing is impossible. That we have hope, love, grace, forgiveness and the strength of the Holy Spirit.
I hope you will join us Sunday as we explore these themes more fully and illustrate them with songs from "It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's Superman," "The Sound of Music," "Great Day," "Carousel," and "Man Of La Mancha."
